On May 12, a shipment of larch logs from Russia, totaling 7,597.26 cubic meters, arrived at the wharf on the Changxing Island of Dalian City. On the arrival, after assessing the epidemic risk, Dalian Customs made inspection and quarantine of the import logs aboard the carrying ship. After confirming no pest risk with the logs, the Customs gave fast clearance by simultaneous procedures of unloading, inspection and release.
Seeing the large increase in log import recently, the Customs House on the Changxing Island has optimized log clearance process, reducing the time limit within 24 hours and making early contact with importers when logs leave the country of origin so as to immediately quarantine both the ships and the logs on their entry, with the aim of no delay in clearance.
The enhancement of clearance efficiency is helpful to local wood-processing enterprises by reducing their demurrage and logistic costs, ensuring the fastest application of the imported materials into production, thus minimizing their business losses from the epidemic. By statistics, since 2020, Changxing Island Customs House has quarantined and released inbound logs totaling 15,180.75 cubic meters, an increase of 167.5% year-on-year.
