On March 15, Kashgar Customs House (affiliated to Urumqi Customs District), together with Kashgar Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, destroyed 102,995 kilograms of smuggled goods.
The illegally imported goods, including 95,050kg ox tripe, 1,815kg donkey skin, 5,949kg squill (in the family Hyacinthaceae) and 180kg honey, were mainly seized at Karasu and Turgart Port, with a combined value of RMB 6,654,900.
Karasu Port, an important trade corridor, is the only land port between China and Tajikistan, and Turgart is a major land port that borders Kyrgyzstan. Affected by foot-and-mouth disease, cloven-hoofed animals and their products from these two countries are banned from entry into China. As for squill and honey, quarantine permits of inbound animals and plants are also required. Otherwise, they are not allowed to be imported.
Customs officers were counting the smuggled ox tripe.
