On June 4, Qingdao Customs officers seized a pair of deer horns from within passenger baggage at Qingdao Liuting International Airport.
That day, when the officers were inspecting an inbound flight from Japan, they found two pieces of deer horns, totaling 940 grams, inside the baggage of a Chinese passenger. According to the passenger, the horns were from white-lipped deer and brought back from Japan.
White-lipped deer is listed as China’s first-class protected animals and in the Appendix I of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
Now, the alleged white-lipped deer horns are detained by the Customs for further investigation.
