SHENZHEN, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Shenzhen Customs has solved a major diamond smuggling case involving 3 billion yuan (about 439.4 million U.S. dollars), local authorities said Monday.
A total of 60 suspects were nabbed in Chinese cities including Shenzhen, Huizhou and Shanwei with more than 300 diamonds confiscated, according to Shenzhen Customs.
Preliminary investigation showed that the domestic gang ordered diamonds from a number of overseas suppliers since 2015 and had them delivered in Hong Kong. The gang hired people to smuggle the diamonds through ports in Shenzhen.
Shenzhen is one of China's major diamond cutting and trading centers, accounting for more than 80 percent of the country's total diamond trade.
