Customs seizure of the containers of frozen food smuggled in
On July 19, Guangzhou Customs anti-smuggling officers seized 16 containers of frozen food that were suspected of being smuggled inward by a ship on the local river. The frozen food including beef, pettitoes, pork tongues and chicken claws, all from the USA, totaled 427 tons in weight and 20 million Yuan in value. Meanwhile, 3 smuggling suspects were also seized on the site.
According to the officers, the smuggling ring used an obsolete ship with a fake license and without onboard monitoring system, thus being very elusive; and because the refrigeration onboard was not adequate through the long transport, the containerized food began to defrost when reaching China, with the sanitation worrying. At present, this smuggling case is under further investigation.
