Customs seizure of smuggled live pangolins
On September 19, Nanning Customs anti-smuggling officers seized 16 live pangolins that were suspected of being smuggled by one car into the city of Fangchengang, Guangxi Region, marking the fourth major seizure of smuggled pangolins by Dongxing Customs House. At present, the 16 pangolins have been transferred to local forestry administration for follow-up treatment.
Pangolins are listed into Appendix Ⅱ of the CITES and into China’s second-grade protected animals. So it is illegal and criminal to hunt and smuggle pangolins at home and abroad.
