Customs seizure of the fossil nautilus illegally carried in
Recently, Shenzhen Customs seized 267 pieces of endangered animal and plant products illegally carried inward by a passenger at Huanggang port.
That afternoon, a male passenger was intercepted by the Customs when abnormal things were found in his luggage under the CT machine. Through unpacking inspection, Customs officers seized 18 fossils of nautilus, 28 ornaments made by hawksbills, 20 products made by gorgonia, and 201 raw agates, totaling 267 pieces.
Nautilus belongs to China’s first-class protected wild animals, hawksbill is listed in Appendix I of the “Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora” (CITES), and gorgonia is listed in Appendix II thereof, all the three banned from international trade.
Now, this case is under anti-smuggling investigation.
