On August 20, Ningbo Customs returned an import consignment of cobalt concentrates that totaled 706.6 tons and USD4,486,000 worth.
On August 6, the Customs House governing Ningbo Free Trade Zone inspected the importing cobalt concentrates at its entry checkpoint. When the officers were approaching the containers of the minerals, their portable radiation detectors gave audible alarms, indicating the radiation out of limit.
Through field detections, the radiation of those minerals was 14 times higher than relevant limit, thus incompliant with China’s environmental protection standard. Then, the Customs immediately conducted physical isolation of those minerals, followed by returning them abroad as per relevant regulations.
