On August 28, Hangzhou Customs Technology Center identified 10 fins of sickle shark (Latin: Carcharhinus Falciformis), totaling 0.675 kilogram, which were earlier seized from the luggage of an inbound passenger at Xiaoshan Airport Customs House.
Sickle shark is listed in the Appendix II of the Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
Now, these shark fins are detained under anti-smuggling investigation.
Customs reminder: As an endangered species, sickle shark and its products are prohibited from trade, carry and post without permit of the Endangered Species Import and Export Management Office in accordance with CITES, China’s Law on Protecting Wild Animals and China’s Regulations on Import and Export of Endangered Wildlife.
